More Than a Photo Shoot: Why Corporate Clients Bring Me In Early
Jul 21 2026 | By: Bridget Horgan Bell Photography
Most people hire a photographer at the end of a creative process. The website copy is written, the annual report layout is close to final, and someone realizes: we need photos. As a corporate photographer based in Cherry Hill, NJ, serving businesses and organizations throughout South Jersey and Philadelphia, I get called in a different way — and it changes what I'm able to deliver.
When Grey Matter Direct, a Mt. Laurel-based digital marketing agency, brought me in to work with their client, Wiley Mission — a continuing care retirement community in Marlton, NJ — I wasn't handed a shot list and a deadline. I was brought into the conversation about what the annual report and website needed to say, and asked to help figure out how photography could say it.
A Corporate Photographer Who Works Across South Jersey and Philadelphia
Corporate and organizational photography is the core of my business — executive and team headshots, on-site company headshot days, branding and marketing photography, and commercial and facility photography for businesses, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, and agencies across Cherry Hill, Mount Laurel, Marlton, Moorestown, Voorhees, Haddonfield, Collingswood, Pennsauken, and Philadelphia. Projects like the Wiley Mission annual report are exactly the kind of work I built my business around: photography that has to function strategically, not just look good.
(I also photograph families and seniors/grads for clients who want the same relaxed, guided approach applied to personal portraits — but corporate and organizational work is where I spend most of my time, and it's where my process really shows.)
Why Collaboration Matters for a Project Like This
A retirement community like Wiley Mission isn't selling a product. It's asking people to trust it with one of the most personal decisions a family makes. The campus itself does a lot of that work — 137 homes spread across 55 acres of park-like grounds, a continuum of care that runs from independent living through rehabilitation, and a genuinely multi-generational setting that includes a church and a preschool alongside senior care. That's an unusual story to tell in photographs, and it's not one you capture by showing up with a shot list built for a generic corporate brochure.
So before I picked up a camera, I talked through the goals with the Grey Matter Direct team: What does this annual report need to prove to donors and families? Where on the website do people drop off, and what's missing visually at that point? Which parts of campus life — staff interactions, the grounds, the sense of community — actually build the trust this organization depends on?
That conversation shaped the shot list more than any brief could have.
What Collaboration Looks Like On-Site
On the day of the shoot, that same collaborative approach continued. I met with Wiley’s CEO, Gary F. Gilmore, and its COO, Chris Cinardo, to review their creative objectives for their 2025 annual report. Armed with this knowledge, I moved through the Wiley Mission campus with an eye toward both the individual images and how each one would function in context — a hero image for a website homepage needs different composition and negative space than a portrait for a printed annual report page. Staff and residents needed to feel comfortable, not staged, which meant adjusting pacing and direction in the moment based on how people were actually responding.
The result is a photography set that isn't just a collection of good individual images. It's a set built to work — in the specific layouts, at the specific sizes, and for the specific emotional register that a continuing care community's annual report and website require.
Common Questions About Working With a Corporate Photographer
What areas do you serve?
I'm based in Cherry Hill, NJ, and serve corporate and organizational clients throughout South Jersey — including Mount Laurel, Marlton, Moorestown, Voorhees, Haddonfield, Collingswood, and Pennsauken — as well as Philadelphia, where I regularly travel on-site for company headshot days and commercial shoots.
Do you only shoot headshots?
No. While executive and team headshots are a core service, I also shoot branding and marketing photography, commercial and facility/architectural photography, and full editorial-style projects like the Wiley Mission annual report and website and social media campaigns — where the photography needs to support a larger strategic and creative goal. I also offer family and senior/grad portrait sessions as a service.
Do you work directly with agencies, or only end clients?
Both. Projects like this one, where I'm brought in by an agency partner alongside their client, are some of my favorite work — I get to collaborate on strategy, not just execute a shot list.
Why This Is How I Prefer to Work
I position myself as a corporate and organizational photographer first, because this is the work I find most rewarding: sitting down with an agency and a client, understanding what a piece of creative actually needs to accomplish, and then building the images that make it accomplish that. Family and senior portrait clients get that same guided, collaborative approach — it's just applied to a different kind of story.
If you're an agency working on an annual report, a website refresh, or any project where the photography needs to do real strategic work — not just fill space — I'd rather be part of that early conversation than receive a shot list after the fact. It's a better process, and it shows in the final work.
